Simply Challenged Challenges - Aug 7 - Teen Birthday!

Hello, all! Today is the first Simply Challenged Challenge for the month of August.

It's time for another challenge hosted by one of the design team members and it's muah's turn! :D This is Barbara and I have selected a theme that fills a much needed gap in my card selection. What is that you say? Well... Teen Birthdays!! Specifically I need boy teen cards but for the challenge you can make any teen birthday cards!!

Please visit the SCC Blog for details, DT inspiration, and to participate!

This is my sample for this week's challenge:

Happy Birthday, Man.... Card. This card is all teen boy with the gears and metal plate print. The stamp is Emo Christian Back 2 School from Simply B Stamps. He reminds me of my teen daughters with their iPod, cell phone, or other gadget in their hands, and that disinterested look on his face! Lol.

Supplies: papers from my stash, cardstock, and Copics.

BLOG ROLL!

Here is my project for today; a Christmas card featuring a fabulous steampunk image from Smeared Ink.

Steampunk Christmas Card. The fantastic images of the Dr. and chimney are from Smeared Ink. I colored them with my Copics and added some Crystal Stickles. The papers are from Echo Park Paper and the gears are from Tim Holtz. I added some stitching in green with my Sew Easy Tool and some Christmas Red Stickle dots. The alphas are from Echo Park as well.

Day 26 - 31 Days of Halloween

Hello, all! Day 26 of the 31 Days of Halloween over at Smeared and Smudged. Today I have a card created with a Kenny K digi stamp. I thought it would be fun to bring a little steampunk into Halloween for this one.

Steamy Halloween Card. The digi stamp is Scarlett West from Kenny K Downloads. The gear papers are from Graphic 45's Steampunk Debutante line. I ran a strip of the paper through my Vagabond using a Cuttlebug gears embossing folder. The gears on the left side were made with the Tim Holtz gears die. The 3 dimensional stickers are from Jolee's. I used Gathered Twigs Distress Ink to ink the embossed paper and the edges.

12 Layouts of Alice - Layout #4

Hello, all! I am here to share with you a couple of layouts I created for some challenges; the Skeletons in the Closet challenge over at Scraps of Darkness, which was to listen to the song "Iris" and scrap whatever you felt while listening to it; and my very own Steampunk challenge over at scrapbook.com (This one is barely on time since today is the last day of the challenge but I really wanted to share it.) This page is also for my series of 12 Layouts of Alice - Layout #4, based on Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of Christmas.

Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of Christmas 2010 - Tag # 4.

Good To Be Queen Layout. This is my layout based on Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of Christmas 2010 - Tag #4. I found the image of the Queen of Hearts on the Internet by an artist called CVY. The throne is from a stock photo. I added lots of glam and glitz for this one, along with the gears and jewels.

Hidden Layout. This page is for the Skeletons in the Closet challenge at Scraps of Darkness. The challenge was to scrap what I felt when I listened to the song "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls and we weren't allowed to use a personal photo. This image is by an artist called ScarletGothica. The song reminded me of all the hidden feelings I had as a child and how someone can have something tearing them apart from the inside. I used my Now and Zen kit from Scraps of Darkness and some flowers I had in my stash, along with liquid pearls and Scarlet Glimmer Mist.

~*~Scraps of Darkness April Reveal~*~

Hello, all! Here we are on the 15th again for another Scraps of Darkness Reveal! April's kit has to be my favorite so far! And if you know me even a little, you know that it is because of all the clocks on these papers and the fabulously rich colors! This month's kit is called Foundations and is filled with Bo Bunny Timepiece papers, Graphic 45 metal flowers, Shimmerz paints and mists, a Perfect Pearl mist, a cameo, Prima flowers, some miniature amber bottles, Salvage Stickers - Crowded Attic from Tim Holtz, and Zva Creative goodies! No SOD kit ever disappoints and this one just blew me out of the water! I can't tell you how much fun I've had playing with this kit and hope you will hop on over to Scraps of Darkness and take a look at what they have to offer! And be sure to check out the Scraps of Darkness Blog for the most recent news, contests, and inspiration!

Let's start with the awesome and beautiful sketch for this month's kit by Suepup (aka Charlotte).

Scraps of Darkness April Sketch.

Maria Layout. This is my take on the April SOD Sketch. I turned it on its side and did some fussy cutting on the paper. I love the deep reds and browns in this kit along with all the clocks and gears! I inked the papers with Walnut Distress Ink and distressed them with my Tonic Studios Distress Tool. The bling, gears, and some of the flowers were from my stash from some of my previous SOD kits. The photo is of my late mother. This page will be going in my personal heritage album.
Gilmore Layout. What can I tell you....I love those clocks! I fussy cut a bunch of them from one of the kit papers to make this layout. I actually created this layout for a challenge at scrapbook.com. The Scissors, Paper, and Ink Challenge over at sb.com challenges you to use only scissors, paper, and ink (adhesive, too) to create a layout. I took to tearing and fussy cutting my papers. I also used Walnut Stain Distresss Ink on all the edges. The photo is of my father-in-law around the time he met my mother-in-law (A very long time ago... lol).

Innocence Layout. Doesn't yellow remind you of spring and innocence? It does to me and when I found this photo of my great-aunt Bertha that is what came to mind; innocence. This photo was taken before she went to a convent to become a nun. The Bo Bunny Timepiece Home paper with its large door reminded me of a church and I associated that with her. I used moss from the SOD kit to make a little nest for my yellow flowers over an inked, painted, and distressed background. The script and window stamp is from the kit as are the lace trim and Graphic 45 metal flowers. I used Vintage Photo Distress Ink, Golden Wheat Shimmerz paint, and Ranger Perfect Pearls Heirloom Gold Mist. The key is a skeleton key I picked up at the hardware store. The Thickers for the title, some flowers, and ribbon were from my stash.

Defines Me Mini Album Front Cover. I created this mini album for Lisa's (aka Lisanovo) Skeletons in the Closet challenge over at the Scraps of Darkness Challenge Forum. The topic of this month's challenge was "What Defines You?" And since I don't think any ONE thing can define me, I made a whole album full of things that help define me. I made this album with mini paper bags from the hardware store (A photo of the type of bag is at the bottom of this post). Throughout this album I used the papers, cardstock, embellies from the kit along with some other embellishments from previous SOD kits.

Defines Me Mini Front Cover Close Up. In this photo, you can see some Vintage metal corners, Prima mini roses, and 7 Gypsies gears.

Defines Me Mini Album: Pages 1 and 2. On page one I used some Prima stencils and Shimmerz Terra Cotta mist to make the background. I used some Tim Holtz alphas from the Salvage Stickers that came in the kit. My children are the ones in the photo and I believe they are part of the reason I am who I am. Without them I wouldn't be a mother. The 2nd page is of my husband; without him I wouldn't be a wife (or would have learned to be one).

Defines Me Mini Album: Pages 1 and 2 Close Up. I wanted to show you all the little note cards inside the pockets of the bag. This is where I have most of my journaling.

Defines Me Mini Album: Pages 3 and 4. These two pages are of my grandmother and late mother. Without out them I wouldn't have been raised the way I was. My mother's death when I was five also had a great effect on me and has partly made me who I am as well.

Defines Me Mini Album: Pages 5 and 6. These two pages are of my friends. All them mean the world to me and their friendship has nurtured a love more like that of family.

Defines Me Mini Album: Pages 7 and 8. These two pages are dedicated to my youth (or lack of it) and experiences.

Defines Me Mini Album: Pages 9 and 10. These two pages are for time and secrets.

Defines Me Mini Album: Pages 11 and 12. These two pages are for the military (being a military spouse) and for my hobby (scrapbooking and scrap supply shopping).

Defines Me Mini Album: Pages 13 and 14. These two pages are for obsessions and collections (some are one and the same).

Defines Me Mini Album: Pages 15 and 16. These two pages are my education and my life (so far).

Defines Me Mini Album: Pages 17 and 18. These two pages are for extra journaling (on the tags). And let me tell you this is the most journaling I've done in a long time!

Defines Me Mini Album Back Cover. I thought I would put some of my favorite things on the back cover such as the 7 Gypsies Gears, Tim Holtz Gears, and a Tim Holtz Word Key.

Mini Paper Bag. Here one of the paper bags, like the ones I used to make the mini album. It measures 7 inches by 3.5 inches. I got these at my local hardware store in the nuts and bolts section.

Steampunk Saturday {Sunday}

Hello, all! Well, my homework has once again gotten the better of me and I missed posting yesterday's Steampunk Saturday layout because I was busy trying to write a paper due on Monday. Not only that but one of the circuit breakers for my house broke and I spent all day yesterday trying to figure out how to replace it! I'm so glad I have an electrician cousin living near me; he's coming over some time today to replace it.

Now on to my project! I used the Studio L3's Grungy Monday technique for this past week on this and I must say that I am completely happy about the results. Now in his technique, Tim Holtz describes making your own foam stamps and that is what I did (I used my new Vagabond!). The fun part is that I've been looking for gear stamps and the ones I've found are either not to my liking or too expensive. Now I have some that I love!

Steampunk Gears Foam Stamps.

Making Memories Layout. I used the Matte Medium Resist Technique from Tim Holtz to create the background, along with Bo Bunny Timepiece Paper and Embellishments, Thickers, Distress Ink in Vintage Photo, and some 7 Gypsies Gears.

Saturday Steampunk 3-19-2011

Hello, all! Here we are on another Steampunk Saturday! I am a huge Nathan Fillion fan. I watch Castle every Monday and I loved Firefly. Wish the networks would bring it back! The Science Network is actually airing reruns of it, so at least that is a start! Lol! Then Nathan Fillion was featured on this week's Entertainment Weekly cover and I was inspired to do a page about that awesome, amazing show. I watched a couple of episodes to get inspired and noticed the connection of steampunk to the show. The aesthetic of the show is a cross between old westerns and space travel. So here is my page dedicated to one of my favorite television shows of all time! Firefly!

Firefly layout. I found this photo on the Internet and I loved the panoramic look to it so I used it for this page. The papers are from the Tim Holtz Lost and Found paper stack. I used my Cricut Expression and the Indie Art cartridge to cut out the gears. I misted the background with Lindy's Stamp Gang Burnt Umber Moon Shadow Mist. The stars are stamped on with a star stamp and Adirondack Heirloom Gold paint dabber. The dots are Heirloom Gold and Pearl paint.

I also made some gears using a mold I made and UTEE in platinum and bronze. Here is a link to my tutorial on how to make your own embellishments with UTEE: http://scrapsofdarkness.com/TutorialUTEEembel.html.

Steampunk Sunday

Hello, all! Sorry that I didn't post this yesterday on Saturday Steampunk but I have finals these next few days and have been swamped. Well, when I was looking through some steampunk images on the Internet, I came upon this awesome leprechaun image ala steampunk. Isn't he so cool? And I decided to create a St. Patrick's Day card with it. The image was created by Von Caberte and I think one of my favorite St. Patrick's Day images ever!

Feeling Lucky? card - front. Here is the front of my St. Patrick's Day steampunk card. I think this leprechaun is so amazing! I used a page of Reminisce Celtic Crossings paper, a border punch, black cardstock, and Tim Holtz gears.

Feeling Lucky? card - back. For the sentiment side, I used my Cricut Expression for the letters, the same sheet of Reminisce Celtic Crossings paper and black cardstock, a clover stamp, and Forest Moss Distress Ink.

Saturday Steampunk 3-5-2011

Hello, all! Here we are on another Steampunk Saturday. I gave you a peek at this page a couple of weeks ago; only that small glimpse because it had been a submission for the SNR staffer call but now that I know I was not chosen for a position at SNR, I am able to share it with you. I was a bit disappointed about not getting selected but there will be many other calls in the future and part of the fun is trying out! So here is my page in its entirety!

Queen of Randomness layout. I scrapped one of my favorite current photos of myself and used the lovely Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante papers! I also used some awesome Dusty Attic chipboard clocks, feathers, Prima flowers, 7 Gypsies gears, and my Dymo!
