Pageantry

Hello, all! Time for some pageantry... Most of you, paper artists, know that there's nothing like the feeling of creating something for a friend or family member that is truly appreciated. I love creating for others and I often create scrapbooking gifts for family. Well, my cousin Alice looked through my scrapbooks while she was visiting me and said how she would love for me to create a book for her daughter. Her daughter has recently joined the pageantry circuit and she thought this would be a great way to record the experience. I have completed a few layouts so far and have kept with the theme and color combo that she and her daughter chose for this book. I hope you all enjoy this bit of pageantry and glitz!

Enchanted Layout. This page is based on the Scraps of Darkness sketch for December. I used my December SOD kit to create it. The papers are Bo Bunny Enchanted; the flowers are Petaloo and Prima. I used Tim Holtz's limited edition Distress Ink in Ripe Permission for the edges and some of the butterflies. I used a punch for the butterflies and Stickles in purple to create the circle. The flourishes in the corners are Prima Resist Canvas.

Royalty Layout. This page is based on a PageMap by Becky Fleck. The papers are from Glitz Design. I created the flourishes with Liquid Pearls in Lavender Lace, added some mist from Lindy's Stamp Gang in Witch's Potion Purple, and some Webster's Pages Dazzle Gems. The alphas are from Thickers.

Untitled Layout. This page does not have a title yet, since I wanted to get my cousin's opinion about that before I added it. The papers are from my stash (don't remember the manufacturers). The flowers are Prima and Recollections. I used a butterfly border punch for the middle trim and used Liquid Pearls in White Opal and Flamingo. The black flourishes are chipboard from the Bo Bunny Enchanted Collection.

Model Behavior Double Page Layout. This page is based on a sketch from Scrapbook, Etc that was chosen for a challenge I signed up for at scrapbook.com. The papers are from Glitz Design. Again I used Webster's Pages Dazzle Gems, Liquid Pearls, and Prima and Petaloo flowers. The alphas are stickers from American Crafts.

Day 29 (10) - 31 (12) Days of Halloween

Hello, all! It's Day 29 of the 31 Days of Halloween! Today I have a project for both Day 29 of the 31 Days of Halloween over at Smeared and Smudged and for Day 10 of the 12 Days of Halloween over at Simply Betty Stamps.

On the tenth day of Halloween...
...My true love gave to me
Ten ghouls a-groaning
Nine ghosts a-booing
Eight monsters shrieking
Seven pumpkins glowing
Six goblins gobbling
Five scary spooks!
Four skeletons
Three black cats
Two trick or treaters
And an owl in a rotten oak tree!

Ghouls Rule Card. I used my October Scraps of Darkness All Hallows Eve kit for this card. The tombstone paper is from Moxxie. The gravestones and tree are images I got from an old coloring book. The ghoul is from Simply Betty Stamps and the alphas are from Thickers.

Day 21 - 31 Days of Halloween & Scraps of Darkness

Hello, all! Day 21! Can you believe we've been through three weeks of the Smeared and Smudged 31 Days of Halloween?! The days have gone by so fast! Today I have another layout to share with you. I used another of my favorite art pieces from Victoria Frances for this. Now when you think vampires, you don't usually think Pink but when I saw this image I knew I had to have some softer colors in there. She looks kind of innocent...in a weird way.

Vamp Layout. For this page, I used my Scraps of Darkness All Hallows Eve Kit and a sheet of Prima Daisy Dreams paper. The crocheted flowers are from The Paper Studio and the pink bling is from Prima. The flowers are Petaloo Color Me Crazy misted with a combination of Lindy's Stamp Gang Alpine Ice Rose  and Ghouly Gargoyle White, and Tattered Angels Coffee Shop Mist. The inking was done with Distress Inks in Black Soot.

Day 18 - 31 Days of Halloween & Scraps of Darkness

Hello, all! Time for Day 18 of the 31 Days of Halloween over at Smeared and Smudged! Today I have another layout for you created from my Scraps of Darkness All Hallows Eve Kit (mixed with a few things from a previous S.O.D. kit). This will be entered in the Monochrome Challenge - for the Burgundy Week (twist of teal), the Colour Challenge, and the ABC Challenge from over at scrapbook.com.

Masquerade Layout. For this page, I used items from my Scraps of Darkness All Hallows Eve and Marrakesh Express Kits. The cardstock papers are from Bazzill and the diamond paper is Fancy Pants Witching Hour paper. The other papers are from Creative Imaginations. I colored one flower with Tattered Angels B Positive Glimmer Glam. I made a couple of ribbon roses and added them to the Prima flowers. I used Ingvild Bolm's Liquid Chalk from Prima in Coal Black to color the lace and the chipboard. The bling is from Prima and the frame is an acetate shape from Kaisercraft. I used Liquid Pearls in Peacock throughout. I used some Fleur d'lis stamps in some of the diamonds.

Day 17, Smudy Antics Challenge & Scraps of Darkness

Hello, all! It's Day 17 of the 31 Days of Halloween! And today is another fun Smudgy Antics Challenge! So I created a layout with my Scraps of Darkness October - All Hallows Eve Kit including a Smeared Ink stamp for today! The Smudgy Antics Weekly Challenge this week is Skull Time! Here is a photo of one of my favorite tv families: The Munsters. Can you guess what other family was a favorite of mine? Lol. You'll be seeing them some time this month, too.

The Munsters Layout. I used my Scraps of Darkness All Hallows Eve kit for this page, including some Pink Paislee Phantom papers, Kaisercraft acetate shapes and rub ons, and some Fancy Pants Oct 31 Witching Hour paper. The skull stamp is from Smeared Ink. I love how gruesome it is compared to the "pretty-ness" of the layout. The trims are from my stash of Websters Pages products. The flowers are Petaloo Color Me Crazy misted with a mixture of Shimmerz Hermit the Frog Mist and Lindy's Stamp Gang Yellow Rose of Texas, and some Petaloo Black flowers. I used Lime Green Stickles for some dots and printed out the title from my computer. I will be entering this page to the Monochrome Challenge at scrapbook.com for the Lime Green week.

Day 16 - 31 Days of Halloween & Scraps of Darkness

For the Scraps of Darkness Halloween Blog Hop post, click here.

Hello, all! I've got another Scraps of Darkness layout for you, for Day 16 of the 31 Days of Halloween over at Smeared and Smudged! The image I used here is from one of my favorite gothic artists, Victoria Frances. The woman in the photo reminds me of all things related to nature (in a witchy way)so I went with a nature-inspired color scheme.
Wiccan Layout. The papers are I used are orange cardstock, and Moxxie's Apothe-scary and Dead on Arrival from the Midnight Dreary Collection. The fence die cut is from the Moxxie Midnight Dreary Die Cut Pack. The chipboard tree is from Scrapmatts as are the chipboard flowers, which I inked black with Ingvild Bolm Black Coal Ink. The orange leaves are from Prima and the green from my stash. The branches are Kaisercraft Acetate Shapes. The white and orange flowers, metal embellishments, and Peeled Paint Distress Stickles on the alphas are from previous Scraps of Darkness kits. I used an Inkadinkado cobweb stampon the background web paper and inked the edges of the cardstock with Tim Holtz's Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink.

Scraps of Darkness October All Hallows Eve Kit.
October All Hallows Eve Kit Sketch by Suepup (aka Charlotte).

Queen of the Damned Layout. I love this photo. In my opinion, Aaliyah made one of the prettiest vampires I've seen in movies and I wanted to create a page for her with this All Hallows Eve kit. I based this page on the Monochrome Challenge over at scrapbook.com, which includes for week 3 the use of Orange and Red. I used the Authentique Afterglow paper and a couple of different oranges, plus a red, cardstocks. I distressed the edges and inked them with Ingvild Bolm Black Coal Ink. I painted the papers with Shimmerz Orange Sherbert as well. The flourishes were cut out with my Cricut Expression and covered in Orange Peel Stickles. The bling flourishes were made by hand with Liquid Pearls in Cantaloupe. I used one of the Kaisercraft Acetate Shapes from the kit to assemble my title tag. The black flowers are from Petaloo and the orange flowers are Petaloo Color Me Crazy flowers misted with Lindy's Stamp Gang Hag Wart Orange Mist and Shimmerz Terra Cotta Mist. I stamped the background with Tim Holtz's Limited Edition Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink and some starry stamp from Inkadinkado.

Day 14 - 31 Days of Halloween

Hello, all! Today is Day 14 of the 31 Days of Halloween. And I have a Nightmare Before Christmas inspired frame for you today! I got this cork frame at Wal-mart for a couple of bucks, and painted it black with Adirondack paint.

Jack and Sally Frame. The "Jack" and "Sally" stamps are from Simply Betty Stamps; the moon and tombstone are from Tiddly Inks; and the pumpkin is from Smeared Ink. I colored them all using my Copics. The moss and branch/tree are from my Scraps of Darkness kits. My eldest daughter saw this frame while I was making it and before the glue was dried, she had already claimed it for herself! Lol.

Lots of Tim Holtz Goodies!

Now onto a layout I created using the September Scraps of Darkness Passages Kit. This is for the Skeletons in the Closet Challenge over at the Scraps of Darkness forum. This month's topic is "Who Are You - When No One is Looking?

Unguarded Layout. This is a recent self portrait that I photo edited. I used the Scraps of Darkness Passages Kit which comprised of many wonderful Teresa Collins World Traveler papers. I cut one into strips to lay over the other to represent being locked up. I added the brick masking for this effect, too. I die cut cork pieces with my Vagabond and misted some Petaloo Color Me Crazy flowers with Smooch mists in Holly Berry and Wood Stain. The small flowers are Prima Londonerry. The flourished are from Bo Bunny's Et Cetera line. The hinges are from Vintaj. I added Rouge Liquid Pearls to the flourishes.

Unguarded Close Up. I added some hidden journaling on a tag that hides behind the photo matting. The butterfly is from Prima and the brads are from the Teresa Collins World Traveler collection. The journaling reads "When no one is looking, I let my guard down and truly become ME. I don't have to care about what every one else thinks or needs. I can relax and take care of my self."

Unguarded Close up 2. This is a close up of some of the misted flowers and cork flowers on this page.

We have taken into consideration our digital artist fans and will be allowing all-digi projects. Feel free to think outside the box and have fun with your project! We are all about looking at things differently and look forward to the variety of projects and mediums we are sure to see.

The Challenge:

The theme says it all....have fun with it!

Here is my sample for this challenge!

Pumpkin Picking Layout. The pumpkin stamps are from Smeared Ink. I used Copics to color the pumpkins in. Everything else I used on this page is from my September Scraps of Darkness Passages Kit. The paper is from Teresa Collins Traveler Collection. The flowers are from Prima's Conventry Rose and Flower Market Collections in Londonerry. I split one of the cork circles from the kit to use as bases for the flowers. I added some stitching with my We R Memory Keepers Sew Easy Tool and embroidery floss. ~*~Scraps of Darkness~*~ September Release & Smeared Ink Release and Blog Hop

Hello, all! It's time for the September Scraps of Darkness Reveal. This month's kit is called Passages and it is chock full of gorgeous travel papers, damask patterns, and rich colored cardstock. The papers are from the Bo Bunny Etc. Collection and the Teresa Collins Traveler Collection; cardstock is from Bazzill, and the embellishments range from Prima to Jenni Bowlin. I have added photos of the kit and its add ons for your viewing {and drooling} pleasure. If you are interested in this or any other kit, act fast! They sell out quickly!

Scraps of Darkness September Kit - Passages.

Scraps of Darkness Passages Paper Add On.

Scraps of Darkness Passages Cardstock Add On.

Scraps of Darkness Passages Romance Add On.

Scraps of Darkness Color Add On.

Scraps of Darkness Passages Flora and Fauna Add On.

Isn't it fabulous!?! So now on to the Scraps of Darkness Monthly Sketch from our very own designer, Charlotte {aka Suepup}.
Scraps of Darkness Passages September Sketch.

This is the page I based on the above sketch:

Innocent Layout. This is my mother when she was baptized as a child. I love that the photo had some color to it. I took some of the Teresa Collins paper and painted the edges with Distress Crackle Paint in Tattered Rose and once dry, I inked over it with Tattered Rose Distress Ink. The lace is from my stash. I used the Prima Brick Mask and Peeled Paint Distress Ink to ink in the brick pattern. The clock is inked with Peeled Paint Distress Ink as well. The flourishes, flowers, and alphas are all from the kit as well. I then added some circle made of Liquid Pearl dots in Bisque. I also misted the burlap flowers with a Worn Lipstick and Antique Linen mists I made.

Warm Welcome Layout. The photos are of my dog Attila and our family's new puppy, Lottie. At first they didn't get along; there was some major jealousy there but it wasn't too long before Attila took to her and they were acting like siblings. All the papers are from the September Scraps of Darkness kit. I used the stamps from the kit to stamp on the journaling block I made, added some lace and doilie flowers, and handmade liquid pearl embellishments. The alphas are foam Thickers which I dotted with Liquid Pearls and the glass embellishments are from a previous Scraps of Darkness kit.

Scrapbook News N' Review Magazine Sketch.

Fifteen Layout. I used the above sketch from SNR for this page of my daughter's 15th birthday. She is not much of a picture-taker so I am lucky to have these of her on that day. I used the white cardstock from the Scraps of Darkness kit and misted it, first with Shimmerz Mama Sings the Blues then with Lindy's Stamp Gang's Hydrangea Blue Mist, and a combination of the Bo Bunny ETC. papers. The zipper flower was given to me a long time ago and I combined that with the brown tulle from the kit. I made the banner and strung it up with embroidery thread.

NOW, onto the news about Smeared Ink. Smeared Ink stamps is releasing new stamps for Halloween! And to celebrate, we are having a blog hop that showcases some of the DT samples!  Here is the blog roll for you to take a look.

Metal Mania and Scraps of Darkness

Hello, all! Today I have a challenge to share with you all. It's time for another Smudgy Antics Challenge and this week the topic is Metal Mania! Here is the description below:

Yay for a new weekly challenge! We're so excited to see some new players coming out of the woodworks, as well as our regular players; we hope you are enjoying the themes! Please feel free to pass on the info to anyone who you think would be interested in playing. All styles are welcome and as we always say, the more the merrier!

As always, here's a reminder about the rules:

*Each Monday morning a new challenge will be posted. It will contain that week's theme and prize information.

*To participate, you must make a project that fits the theme and add it to the post using the Inlinkz linky. Your link must take us directly to your project on a publicly accessible blog or website, or it will be disqualified - so please make sure you're linking to your actual post. It must be linked by midnight on the following Saturday, Pacific Time. This gives you six days to complete the challenge.

*Your project can be anything (card, scrapbook page, mixed media, altered or 3-D item, etc) as long as it is handmade and stamped somewhere with either a rubber or digital stamp. We have taken into consideration our digital artist fans and will be allowing all-digi projects. Feel free to think outside the box and have fun with your project! We are all about looking at things differently and look forward to the variety of projects and mediums we are sure to see.

*You must use AT LEAST 1 Smeared Ink image on your project. You are allowed to use anything else that you like.

*The weekly winner will be chosen by random number and revealed on Sunday. Prizes will vary and may range from a free digi to a coupon to a blog badge.

So let's get to it! Here's this week's info.

The Challenge:

METAL MANIA

This one is easy: Use metal in your project! It can be a piece of metal, a metal base, a metal color, or even Heavy Metal (for all you headbangers out there).

Here is my example:

Time Waits for No Man 8X8 Layout. I recently found an old stash of photos that I took in some cemeteries years ago. I find tombstones very beautiful and interesting... what can I say? So I decided I'd create an album just for them but I didn't want to do the regular 12X12 this time, so I am doing 8X8 and I find that I am loving the size. So here is my first page: I used a Smeared Ink Stamp (It's About Time Pocket Watch Digi) and colored it in with Copics. The papers are from the DCWV Tattered Time stack. I used some Prima flowers and Webster's Pages Bloomers. The gears are Tim Holtz and colored with Pitch Black Alcohol Ink and the title letters are Thickers.

If you'd like to see more examples and/or join in on this challenge, please stop by the Sumdgy Antics Blog!

And here is a little project using my Scraps of Darkness August Kit - Envy! This is for the Stalker Challenge over at the S.O.D. forum and this month the challenge was to create a card.

Live Brightly Card. This card was created completely using the Scraps of Darkness Envy Kit for August. I love the nature-inspired feel of these papers and wanted to create something that reminded me of the outdoors. I used a card sketch from The Color Room for this.
